In a world where everyone has a life coach or mentor, the idea of coaching yourself might sound a bit unusual. After all, don't we usually seek guidance and support from others? Well, yes, but that doesn't mean you can't coach yourself too.
What does it mean to coach yourself?
Coaching yourself is about getting to know yourself. It's about taking deliberate steps to understand your goals, values and strengths. It's a journey of personal growth.
Here's how you can do it:
Set Clear Goals
The first step is to set goals for your coaching - just as a coach would set when working with you on a 1-1 or within a small group. What do you want to achieve from this experience? Knowing your goals guides your actions.
Coaching yourself involves reflecting inwards, and answering questions you may not have asked yourself before. Ask yourself the tough questions, and be honest with your answers.
Knowledge is power. Grow and develop personally through books, workshops, podcasts, and even TV shows. Learn others who've walked a similar path. Arm yourself with information to make the right decisions for you.
Make a Plan
Once you've assessed your goals and gathered knowledge, create a plan of action. Break your goals down into small steps with deadlines, work through them one by one.
Being your own coach means holding yourself accountable. Accountability is one of the biggest challenges for my coaching clients, so the way you hold yourself accountable will be individual to you. Keep track of your progress, celebrate your wins and learn from challenges.
Positive self talk is essential. Notice when you're not using positivity and encourage yourself to believe in your abilities.

Finally, build your self-belief. Coaching yourself isn't just about setting goals and achieving them. It's about knowing your power, building confidence in your abilities and empowering yourself.
