How are you finding clients right now?


When I first started my bookkeeping business, I'd get clients through referral, I'd go to a few networking events and I listed myself in a few directories. I got a few clients, I got paid, and that was great, I'd worked really hard for my practice license and I was actually getting work, it was paying off. But the truth is, I was always relying on those referrals.


And the truth is, I wasn't loving my work. I was working with all sorts of businesses, using all sorts of software, all sorts of processes and systems. I could never really get to know one industry, I could never do my best work because I was trying to be all things to all people.


And the reason I was relying on those referrals, the reason I was taking on any work that came my way was that I wasn't initiating anything myself. I wasn't putting myself in front of my client and saying, "Hey, I'm here! And this is what I do"


But there was no reason why I couldn't do that. I just needed to work out who the clients were that I loved working with and put myself in front of them. To get visible.


It was about getting strategic.


But many bookkeepers don't think about marketing their businesses in that strategic way. And that's because they're too busy. Which is fair enough, we are busy, we don't have time.


But what if I told you it didn't need to take that much time? It just needs a structured approach?


(And, by the way, if I told you that if you put this little bit of time in, it would help your business so so much because other bookkeepers just aren't making that time investment in their businesses?)


That's why I've been helping bookkeepers get visible, because I know what it takes. I had a niche bookkeeping practice clearly targeting the creative sector of Bristol. They were my ideal client. I got myself in front of them. I won work. And I rarely had a push back on fees because this wasn't about my hourly rate. This was about me being the best bookkeeper for that industry.
